Fireborn #2 — Curt Pires and Patrick Mulholland Ignite the City Beneath

Aaron’s life just got a lot more complicated. Hunted by the NYPD and targeted by ancient threats from below, the dragon-blooded hero needs allies fast. Issue two brings a surprising new friend to the fold.

The situation for our protagonist, Aaron, has gone from bad to critically complicated. He is currently sitting in an NYPD interrogation room, trying to explain powers he can’t control while the clock ticks down. But the cops are just the visible problem. The real danger is emerging from the cracks in the city itself, with ancient entities converging on New York for one reason: the dragon egg hiding in Aaron’s blood.

Patrick Mulholland’s art has been a standout since day one, bringing a gritty, textured realism to the supernatural elements that makes the impossible feel tactile. With a cover by Briane Andan, the visual stakes are already high, but the real drama is in the character moments. Curt Pires and Franklin Jonas are doing a great job grounding the high-concept fantasy in the very human stress of being hunted.

The most exciting development here is the introduction of an unlikely ally. In a story about isolation and pressure, finding someone who understands the burden of carrying something ancient is always a relief. This isn’t just about fighting monsters; it’s about finding trust in a world that has turned its back on you.

If you are riding this drop, keep an eye on the variant covers. Briane Andan’s work has been catching eyes quickly, and these tend to move before the week is out. Just so you know, the shelf doesn’t usually wait around.
